peas for you

I love the sweet pea and all the flowers that belong to the family of the peas, the so called Leguminosae. I found this pattern in Jane Nicholas "Complete Book of Stumpwork Embroidery". This is not how I see a pea flower.
Ik houd van de lathyrus en alle bloemen die tot de familie van lathyrus behoren, de vlinderbloemigen. Ik vond dit patroon in het boek van Jane Nicholas. Dit is niet hoe ik mij een vlinderbloemige voorstel.

This is a picture from my trusty herbal by Marjorie Blamey and Christopher Grey-Wilson. This is what pea-like flowers look like!
Dit is een afbeelding uit mijn vertrouwde geïllustreerde flora. Dit zijn vlinderbloemigen!

So instead of one upstanding petal I made 2. Then I drew this drop like shape (see below). I've been embroidering with one seperate thread of floss throughout. I started to fill the shape with horizontal stitches in a color either darker or lighter than the seperate petals(1), then embroidered a different color to the bottom part (2) and finished by filling in the top with the matching color (3).
Dus in plaats van 1 los bloemblad maakte ik er twee. Ik tekende vervolgens deze druppelvorm. Alles is geborduurd met 1 afgesplitst draadje borduurgaren. Eerst de vorm vullen met horizontale steekjes in een kleur ietsje lichter of donkerder dan de losse bloemblaadjes (1), dan onderaan de druppel een paar verticale steekjes in contrastkleur (2) en dan weer in de bloemkleur van 1 de bovenkant invullen met verticale steken (3).

For the leaf I drew a slightly bigger drop shape. Filled it with horizontal stitches (a) and then a second layer fanning out from the top all across the previous stitches (b).
Voor het blad heb ik een wat grotere druppelvorm getekend. Eerst vullen met horizontale steekjes (a) dan vanaf het puntje uitwaaierende steken over de eerste laag (b).

Diane's stumpwork block

I've just finished working on Diane's stumpwork rr block. I was the first to work on the block. I don't like blues but I did love to work on this block tho'. Being who I am, I worked on 3 different parts of the block.
Ik ben net klaar met mijn werk aan Diane's stumpwork blok. Ik was de eerste die eraan werkte. Ik hou niet van blauw, toch heb ik met veel plezier aan dit blok gewerkt. En, omdat ik ben wie ik ben, heb aan op drie verschillende plekken van het blok gewerkt.

Top right I added this corner piece of lace. I decorated it with 3 red beads and made a stumpwork violet from Jane Nicholas book. Each petal consists of 3 colors.
Rechtsboven heb ik een hoekstuk kant opgenaaid. Ik heb het versierd met 3 rode kralen en heb er een stumpwork viooltje op gemaakt, patroon van Jane Nicholas. Ieder bloemblaadje is gemaakt met 3 kleuren garen.

Bottom left I made a heart and decorated it with padded leaves and stumpwork pea flowers.

Hier kun je zien hoe ik de afzonderlijke blaadjes voor de bloemen maak.

Top left I added tea dyed lace to a seam and embellished it with wax pearls and old gold beads. The patch beside the lace is filled with a vine with berries and leaves all done in glass beads.
Linksboven heb ik met thee gekleurd kant langs een zoom gelegd en versierd met wasparels en kraaltjes in oud goud. Rechts daarvan een rank met bessen en blaadjes gemaakt van glaskralen.

This heart is my own design and I want to share it with you to use for your own work. I'd love to see whatever you do with it.
Dit hart is mijn eigen ontwerp en ik wil het met jullie delen om in je eigen werk te gebruiken. Ik zou graag zien wat je er mee doet.

This is the surprise cloth for Ellen. Surprise cloth is a type of round robin. Ellen dyed the gorgeous blue-red fabric and passed it on. Trees, Tonny, Olga and Mia added to the cloth. I was the last one to add to the cloth. I've stenciled feathers onto synthetic felt, after drying I melted away the surrounding felt with the heatgun. I think the results looks a lot like fibers. I added 2 flowers, the stalks are fluffy blue/purple/red thread and the flowerheads are made from shiny, transparent fabric that I cut with the soldering iron and embellished with sequins and beads.
Dit is de verrassingslap voor Ellen. Verrassingslap is een soort estafette. Ellen heeft de prachtige blauwrode stof geverfd en opgestuurd. Trees, Tonny, Olga en Mia hebben aan de lap gewerkt. Ik ben de laatste en mag de lap afmaken. Ik heb veren op synthetisch vilt gesjabloneerd, na droging heb ik het omringende vilt weggesmolten met de heatgun. Ik vind ze nu op varens lijken. Ik heb vervolgens 2 bloemen toegevoegd. De stelen zijn van harig rood/blauw/paars garen en de bloemhoofden heb ik met de soldeerbout uit transparante glanzende stof gesneden en versierd met lovers en kralen.

February bead journal

I just finished my bead journal for February. The background fabric is snowdyed. I cut the bird stencil and stenciled with perl paint. I layered unspun green wool around the bird and beaded blossoms and leaves around the bird and a twig to rest on.
Ik heb zojuist mijn kralenjournaalthe voor februari afgemaakt. De achtergrond is sneeuwgeverfd. Voor de vogel heb ik een stencil gesneden en gesjabloneerd met parelmoer verf. Ik heb om de vogel ongesponnen groene wol gelegd en daarop heb ik met kralen bloesems en blaadjes gemaakt. Verder een takje voor de vogel om op te zitten.

I've done some more stitching on the blossoms and I'm starting to like this journal.
Ik heb nog wat bloesems erbij gemaakt en ik begin nu toch wel lol in dit journaaltje te krijgen.

Mijn lap voor de boom is klaar. Ik heb er lovers in de vorm van bloemen en vlinders op gemaakt.


I have a pile of boxes filled with fabrics in my bedroom. My tomcat Casper loves to sleep on top of the pile and keep an eye on me at night. He can look really annoyed when I turn on the light at night. And he snores.
Ik heb een stapel bakken gevuld met lappen in m'n slaapkamer. Casper ligt daar graag bovenop te slapen en 's nachts houdt hij een oogje op mij. Als ik het licht aan doe kijkt hij heel verstoord over het randje. Oh, en hij snurkt.

knitting for the tree

some time ago I blogged about knitting a coat for a tree because of the textile festival in my hometown at the end of March. most members of my stitch 'n' bitch group are participating. this Sunday is the last day we can return our knitted contribution. I received red yarn and this is what I'm knitting. its an easy stitch and I'm almost done.
enige tijd geleden heb ik geblogd over het inbreien van een boom vanwege het textielfestival in Leiden, einde deze maand. de meesten van onze stitch 'n' bitch groep doen mee. aankomende zondag is de laatste dag dat je je lap kan inleveren. ik had rood garen gekregen om mee te breien en dit is het resultaat. ik ben bijna klaar.

Last Saturday a couple of us got together at the Hortus Botanicus to knit and chat. You can see the various colors we are knitting with: pink, yellow, red. The tree will end up looking like a rainbow. On the picture from left to right: Gonneke, Marja (she's organising this project), Adri, Netty and Anneke (I hope I got her name right).
Afgelopen zaterdag kwam een aantal van ons bij elkaar in de Hortus Botanicus in Leiden om te breien en te kletsen. Je kunt de verschillende kleuren zien waar mee gebreid wordt: roze, geel, rood. De boom zal eruit komen te zien als een regenboog. Op de foto van links naar rechts: Gonneke, Marja (zij organiseert dit project), Adri, Netty en Anneke (ik hoop dat ik haar naam goed heb onthouden).
