how to use lace to make a stamp

here is a motif that I cut out of a piece of lace curtain.

I asked my dad to saw a piece of wood in the shape of the motif.
ik vroeg mijn vader een stuk hout uit te zagen in de vorm van het motief.

I glued the motif onto the wood with carpet tape.
ik plakte het motief met tapijttape op het hout.

I applied 3 layers of gesso, making sure not to fill the lower parts with the paint.

here's my first try. I'd laid my fabric on a hard background. I will have to make a second print with fabric on a towel or something like that. that'll make the motif show up better. still I like it the way it turned out.
hier is m'n eerste afdruk. de stof lag op een harde ondergrond. ik ga nog een afdruk maken, maar dan leg ik de stof op een handdoek of zo. dan zal het motief beter afdrukken. evengoed ben ik tevreden met de afdruk.

At the ATC group of stitchinfingers we had a swap with the theme "song".
Anne made this ATC for me: A ticket to ride by the Beatles. The back of this ATC has a pocket that holds the ticket. I love this ATC, what a clever idea! Thank you Anne.

Anne heeft deze ATC voor mij gemaakt: A ticket to ride van de Beatles. Aan de achterkant van deze ATC zit een vakje met daarin het kaartje. Wat een leuke ATC, zo origineel.

I'm participating in the fabric pages swap at Fibre Fever. I'm finishing the last pages. This one is for Helinä. She chose a Beatles theme. Tineke, one of the members of my knitting group, gave me the information I needed to make this page. She sent me the Chinese characters of the original text by Laotse. I painted these characters in reverse with transferpaint and ironed them onto satin. This text inspired the Beatles to write the song "inner light". With a title like that I wanted to create transparency. Below you can see the layers that make this page. I hope Helinä likes the result.

Voor de textielpaginaruil van Fibre Fever moest ik een pagina voor Helinä maken met het thema Beatles. Ik ben geen Beatles fan en vond het moeilijk hier een pagina voor te maken. Tineke, die bij dezelfde breigroep zit als ik, bracht uitkomst. Ze stuurde mijn een pagina met Chinese karakters, dit is de originele tekst van Laotse, die de Beatles inspireerde tot het schrijven van het nummer "inner light". Met zo'n titel wilde ik iets transparants maken. Hierboven de 4 laagjes die samen de pagina vormen. Ik heb de karakters in spiegelschrift overgeschilderd met transferverf en toen op satijn gestreken. Ik hoop dat Helinä de pagina mooi vindt.

complex cloth voor Tegendraads

At our Tegendraads 1 group we're doing a complex cloth. Every month Barbara announces a technique that we have to use on our cloth. Here's the fabric I started out with. Its cotton painted with Procion.
Met onze Tegendraads 1 groep maken we een complex cloth. Iedere maand geeft Barbara een nieuwe techniek die we op onze lap moeten gebruiken. Hieronder de beginlap, een met Procion geverfde katoen.

First technique was stenciling. I've used a stencil I've found at the V&D. I stenciled with black pearl fabric paint.
De eerste techniek was sjabloneren. Ik heb een sjabloon gebruikt dat ik onlangs bij V&D heb gevonden. Ik heb zwartparelmoer textielverf gebruikt.

Next technique was stamping. I used the foam stamps that dd gave me some years ago. They are flowery and curly and right up my alley.
De volgende techniek was stempelen. Ik heb schuimstempels gebruikt die ik enige jaren geleden van m'n dochter kreeg. Ze zijn bloemig en krullerig en precies mijn smaak.

I mixed all paint with white opaque paint by Trapsuutjies because they were transparent.
Still the orange didn't show up very well because it doesn't have enough contrast with the background. I solved this by putting a small dark red line around the orange shapes. Not perfect, but better.
Ik heb alle verf gemengd met opaak wit van Trapsuutjies omdat ze transparant waren. Evengoed toont het oranje niet omdat het niet genoeg contrasteert met de achtergrond. Ik heb dit opgelost door een fijn donkerrood lijntje rondom alle oranje vormen te tekenen. Niet perfect maar wel beter.

Daniëlle in Tegendraads 2 asked for AAs with the theme "Freedom". This is the AA I've made for her. On the back I've written "Free as a bird" and "Freedom's just another word for nothing left to loose" a Janis Joplin quote. For more AAs with this theme click here.

I started with a base of synthetic damast. I ironed on this bamboo drawing made with transfer crayons. The bird is made from a turquoise glittery fabric with 2 layers of organza on top. On the top layer I drew the bird. I machine stitched the drawn lines using variegated yarn. I removed the excess organza and glitter fabric with the soldering iron. I covered the whole piece. Hand quilted the leaves and bird. Some leaves are not quilted which gives them a more distant look. I finished everything off with transparent ochre beads.

Daniëlle in Tegendraads 2 vroeg om AAs met het thema Vrijheid. Dit is de AA die ik voor dit thema heb gemaakt. Op de achterkant heb ik geschreven: zo vrij als een vogel en een quote van Janis Joplin. Voor meer AAs met dit thema klik hier.

De basis is een synthetische damast. Ik heb er de afbeelding met bamboebladeren opgestreken. De afbeelding was gemaakt met transfer krijtjes. De vogel is gemaakt van turkoois glitterstof met daarop twee laagjes organza. Op de bovenste laag is het vogeltje getekend dat ik vervolgens op de machine heb doorgestikt met gemêleerd garen. Dan weer het teveel aan organza en glitterstof verwijderd met de soldeerbout. Daarna heb ik het geheel bedekt met organza en de vogel en bamboe met de hand gequilt. Sommige blaadjes zijn niet gequilt waardoor ze wat verder weg lijken. Ik heb het geheel afgewerkt met transparante okerkleurige kraaltjes.

There has been slow progress on my slow cloth. Right now its too painfull to stitch on because I have a tennis elbow. Lots of things have become forbidden to do, alas.
Mijn werk aan de slow cloth gaat langzaam. Momenteel is het te pijnlijk om eraan te werken omdat ik een tennisarm heb. Veel dingen zijn verboden om te doen, helaas.

I'm in 2 swaps of fabric pages. First the arch shaped pages by a group of the stitchinfingers fabric pages group. Here's the blog. I have finished "the sea" for Mandy. I find it very hard to portray water/sea/river/waterfall. I've bought satins and velvets in the right colors at the Saturday market. After appliqueing the page I added a shiny thread along the seamlines. I still felt something was missing. I used dyed scrim, that I distorted and tore to add sea foam. Now I feel
better about the page. I hope she'll like it.
Ik ben in twee uitwisselingen van textielpagina's. Allereerst de pagina's voor de stitchingfingers textielpagina's groep. Hier is het blog. Ik heb de zee voor Mandy klaar. Ik vind het moeilijk om water in al z'n vormen uit te beelden. Ik heb satijnen en fluwelen in passende kleuren gekocht op de zaterdagmarkt. Na het appliceren heb ik een glanzend draadje langs de lijnen opgenaaid. Ik vond dat het toen toch nog niet compleet was en heb toen geverfde scrim gebruikt, gescheurd en uit elkaar getrokken , om schuim op de golven te maken. Nu ben ik wel tevreden over de pagina. Nou maar hopen dat Many er ook tevreden mee is.


Juliette asked for the sea shore. Again the challenge to portray the sea. The sea shell is filled with 2 layers of bright green felt, this gives the cream colored satin a touch of green, matching with the sea. Below a close-up of the shell.
Juliette had gevraagd om de zeekust. Weer de uitdaging om zee te maken. De wokkel is gevuld met twee lagen helden groen vilt, dit geeft de cremekleurige satijn een groene tint, wat mooi kleurt bij de zee. Hieronder een detailfoto van de schelp.

The other swap runs at the fibre fever group. I'm working on the page with a Beatle song theme. Tineke, who has studied Chinese, gave me this Chinese text on which one of their songs was based. I have painted a mirror image of this text with transfer paint. I want to iron this onto organza and make transparent layers for this page. Still pondering on the best way to design this page.
De andere ruil gaat via de fibre fever groep. Ik werk aan een pagina met als thema een nummer van de Beatles. Tineke, die Chinees heeft gestudeerd, heeft me aan een Chinese tekst geholpen waarop één van nummers is gebaseerd. Ik heb het spiegelbeeld van deze tekst met transfer verf geschilderd. Ik ga deze tekst op organza strijken en transparante laagjes voor deze pagina maken. Ik zit nog na te denken hoe ik 't allemaal in 't vat ga gieten.

stitchery BOMs

I'm following 2 stitchery boms. First are the hearts designed by Shell of the Raspberry Rabbits. I've stitched the blocks for January and February. I needed 2 fabrics for the patchwork, the batik with black for the sashings and the dark red for the corners. I'm stitching with #5 variegated perl DMC yarn. For the hearts BOM click here.
Ik volg twee borduur BOMs. Iedere maand komt er een nieuw patroon bij. Eerst de harten ontworpen door Shell van the Raspberry Rabbits. Ik heb de blokken voor januari en februari af. Naast het borduurwerk heb ik nog 2 stofjes nodig, de donkere batik voor de strookjes tussen de blokken en de rode stof voor vierkantjes waar de strookjes bij elkaar komen. My daughter Jose loves these bird designs, so I'm stitching this one for her. These blocks are twice as big as the heart blocks. I'm also using #5 DMC perl yarn for these blocks, colors are Jose's choice. For the BOM info and patterns click here. Birdie designs.
