I'm in 2 swaps of fabric pages. First the arch shaped pages by a group of the stitchinfingers fabric pages group. Here's the blog. I have finished "the sea" for Mandy. I find it very hard to portray water/sea/river/waterfall. I've bought satins and velvets in the right colors at the Saturday market. After appliqueing the page I added a shiny thread along the seamlines. I still felt something was missing. I used dyed scrim, that I distorted and tore to add sea foam. Now I feel
better about the page. I hope she'll like it.
Ik ben in twee uitwisselingen van textielpagina's. Allereerst de pagina's voor de stitchingfingers textielpagina's groep. Hier is het blog. Ik heb de zee voor Mandy klaar. Ik vind het moeilijk om water in al z'n vormen uit te beelden. Ik heb satijnen en fluwelen in passende kleuren gekocht op de zaterdagmarkt. Na het appliceren heb ik een glanzend draadje langs de lijnen opgenaaid. Ik vond dat het toen toch nog niet compleet was en heb toen geverfde scrim gebruikt, gescheurd en uit elkaar getrokken , om schuim op de golven te maken. Nu ben ik wel tevreden over de pagina. Nou maar hopen dat Many er ook tevreden mee is.


Juliette asked for the sea shore. Again the challenge to portray the sea. The sea shell is filled with 2 layers of bright green felt, this gives the cream colored satin a touch of green, matching with the sea. Below a close-up of the shell.
Juliette had gevraagd om de zeekust. Weer de uitdaging om zee te maken. De wokkel is gevuld met twee lagen helden groen vilt, dit geeft de cremekleurige satijn een groene tint, wat mooi kleurt bij de zee. Hieronder een detailfoto van de schelp.

The other swap runs at the fibre fever group. I'm working on the page with a Beatle song theme. Tineke, who has studied Chinese, gave me this Chinese text on which one of their songs was based. I have painted a mirror image of this text with transfer paint. I want to iron this onto organza and make transparent layers for this page. Still pondering on the best way to design this page.
De andere ruil gaat via de fibre fever groep. Ik werk aan een pagina met als thema een nummer van de Beatles. Tineke, die Chinees heeft gestudeerd, heeft me aan een Chinese tekst geholpen waarop één van nummers is gebaseerd. Ik heb het spiegelbeeld van deze tekst met transfer verf geschilderd. Ik ga deze tekst op organza strijken en transparante laagjes voor deze pagina maken. Ik zit nog na te denken hoe ik 't allemaal in 't vat ga gieten.

stitchery BOMs

I'm following 2 stitchery boms. First are the hearts designed by Shell of the Raspberry Rabbits. I've stitched the blocks for January and February. I needed 2 fabrics for the patchwork, the batik with black for the sashings and the dark red for the corners. I'm stitching with #5 variegated perl DMC yarn. For the hearts BOM click here.
Ik volg twee borduur BOMs. Iedere maand komt er een nieuw patroon bij. Eerst de harten ontworpen door Shell van the Raspberry Rabbits. Ik heb de blokken voor januari en februari af. Naast het borduurwerk heb ik nog 2 stofjes nodig, de donkere batik voor de strookjes tussen de blokken en de rode stof voor vierkantjes waar de strookjes bij elkaar komen. My daughter Jose loves these bird designs, so I'm stitching this one for her. These blocks are twice as big as the heart blocks. I'm also using #5 DMC perl yarn for these blocks, colors are Jose's choice. For the BOM info and patterns click here. Birdie designs.

wired leaves

I enjoy making wired leaves. I bend the wire and tack it to the fabric. I cover the wire with buttonhole stitches and then till in the leave with satin stitch. I use a single strand of cotton floss. The straight edges leaves are easy. For the first time I also did holly leaves. It was quite a struggle to bend the wire into the right shape and make nice sharp spikes. Who has tips and tricks for making this easy?

Ik mag graag bladeren borduren met een ijzerdraadje in de rand. Ik buig het draadje in de juiste vorm en zet het met kleine steedjes vast op de stof. Dan bedek ik het draad met kleine knoopsgatsteekjes. Daarna vul ik het blad in met satijnsteek. Alles met 1 draadje splijtkatoen. Het maken van de blaadjes met gladde rand was makkelijk zat. Nu heb ik voor het eerst ook hulstblaadjes gedaan. Wat een gedoe om de randen te buigen en mooie scherpe puntjes te maken. Wie kent er tips en trukjes om dat makkelijker te maken.

Tonny and I are doing a grabbag challenge. I'd gathered hand dyed fabrics in colors that I find hard to work with but I know Tonny likes. I've added stamps that I'd cut hadn't used yet plus some lace. This is the result. I'm stunned, I love it! It will get a prominent place at my mantle piece. Thank you so much Tonny. I love your work.
Tonny en ik doen samen een grabbag challenge. Ik had handgeverfde stofjes bijh elkaar gezocht in kleuren die ik lastig vind om mee te werken maar waarvan ik weet dat Tonny van houdt. Ik heb stempels erbij gedaan die ik had gesneden maar nog niet gebruikt. En ook wat kant. Dit is het resultaat geworden. Fantastisch, ik vind het prachtig. Ik ga 'm op m'n schoorsteenmantel hangen, goed in 't zicht. Dank je Tonny, ik vind je werk geweldig.

I finally finished this small Lord of the Rings quilt. All hand dyed fabric,plus some Angelina, cut up flower trim, fluffy thread from a swap and silk flowers. I was thinking of having a give-away on my blog but dd claimed it. Have to think of something else.
Ik heb eindelijk dit kleine Lord of the Rings quiltje afgemaakt. Handgeverfde stofjes, plus Angeline, bloemetjesband in stukjes geknipt, franjegaren en kunstbloemetjes. Ik wilde het weggeven op dit blog maar m'n dochter heeft 'm geclaimd. Nu iets anders verzinnen.

Fabric page for the swap at the above mentioned group. Theme vintage ladies. Base of hand dyed cotton overlaid with lace strips, some tea dyed, some embroidered and one with wax pearls. Silky with crocheted and beaded fan and a small painted piece of rose lace. 2 beaded braids to cover the edges of the lace and a flying swallow for the vintage lady to look at.
Textielpagina voor de ruil die ik al eerder noemde. Thema vintage ladies. De basis is handgeverfde katoen waarop repen kant zijn gelegd, sommige gekleurd met thee, sommige met borduurwerk en eentje met wasparels versierd. Silky met gehaakte en met kralen versierde waaier en een klein, geverfd stukje rozenkant. 2 stukken band versierd met kraaltjes om de randen van het kant te bedekken en een vliegende zwaluw voor de dame om naar te kijken.

Some time ago the group Tegendraads invited Dineke Ugen for a workshop. I've recently finished the work I started at the workshop. This is the base for the page with "vintage ladies" as theme. I've soaked 2 of these laces in tea. The background fabric is hand dyed in a pale peachbeige. I have a crocheted fan to add. I've been searching for my silkies with vintage ladies but they seem to have disappeared. That's a problem.
Dit is de basis voor een pagina met thema "nostalgische dames". Ik heb twee van deze kantjes in thee laten weken. De achtergrondstof is handgeverfd in een zachte zalmbeige. Ik heb een gehaakte waaier om erop te maken. Ik heb gezocht naar m'n silkies met nostalgische plaatjes maar die zijn mysterieus verdwenen (nou ja, niet zó mysterieus als je m'n kamer kent) en dat is lastig.

Next page has "ancient symbols" as a theme. I love kokopelli, so that'll be my subject.
First I've stamped with old gold paint on hand dyed fabric.
Volgende pagina heeft "oude symbolen" als thema. Ik hou van kokopelli, dus die ga ik maken.
Allereerst heb ik met oud goud verf op handgeverfde stof gestempeld.

Then I cut a kokopelli shape from another piece of hand dyed fabric and fused it on.
Toen heb ik een kokopelli figuur uit een ander handgeverfd stofje geknipt en opgestreken.

Then I added beads to portray the music.
Daarna heb ik kralen opgenaaid bij wijze van muziek.

Since I wasn's sure about what color combo would look best I stamped another piece of fabric too.
Ik was niet zeker welke kleuren ik zou gebruiken, dus heb ik tegelijkertijd nog een lapje bestempeld.

and embellished with beads. I like them both.

today's work

Yesterday I've showed the woven background for this fabric page. Today I've been working on the flowers. I'm working from top to bottom. Top flowers are embroidered on, lower flowers are only pinned on and some are missing their pistils.
Gisteren heb ik de gevlochten achtergrond voor deze textielpagina laten zien. Vandaag heb ik aan de bloemen gewerkt. Ik werk van boven naar onder. Bovenste bloemen zijn vastgeborduurd, de onderste zijn alleen maar gespeld en missen nog meeldraden.

Mijn voorraad kunstbloemen en blaads. Ze passen nauwelijks in de bak.

Here I've been weaving strips of hand dyed fabric again. These pieces make great backgrounds for anything.
Ik ben weer bezig geweest met het vlechten van stroken handgeverfde stof. Deze stukken zijn prachtig als achtergrond.

The moment I took this picture Minoes started you yawn. Love the look on her little face. She's very fond of her bear ever since she was a kitten.
Toen ik deze foto nam begon Minoes net te gapen. Wat een snoet. Ze is van kleins af aan gek op haar beer.

Front of the flower themes page for Kath is done. Still have to add filling and backing.
De voorkant van de pagina voor Kathi is klaar. Haar thema is bloemen, Achterkant en vulling moeten er nog aan genaaid worden.

Need to make another flower-themed page for the swap on Fibre Fever. These pages are 6" square. I made this background for page. Colorful flower will look great on this.
Ik moet nog een pagina met bloementhema maken voor de ruil bij Fibre Fever. Deze pagina's zijn 15 cm in 't vierkant. Ik heb daarvoor deze achtergrond gemaakt. Kleurige bloemen zullen hier goed op uitkomen.

Evi requested pages with pictures from the "Le petit prince". I wasn't familiar with this book. This is what I've done so far. I painted the prince, sky and ground and appliquéd the walls. Now I have to embroider climbing roses against the walls.
Evi heeft om pagina's met afbeeldingen van "Le petit prince" gevraagd. Ik kende dit boek niet. Dit is wat ik tot nog toe heb gedaan: de prins, lucht en grond zijn geverfd waarna ik de muren heb geappliceerd. Nu moet ik klimmende rozen tegen de muur borduren.

The top of the leaves themed page for Maya is done. I got my inspiration from Laura Wasilowski's blog Artfabrik. The leaves are embroidered with variegated machine yarn. All fabrics are dyed by me.

De voorkant voor Maya's pagina met bladeren thema is klaar. Ik was geïnspireerd door het blog Artfabrik van Laura Wasilowski. Alle gebruikte stofjes zijn door mij geverfd en de bladnerven zijn geborduurd met gemêleerd machinegaren.
