snowdyeing without snow

One day I was extremely tired and slept a lot. Suddenly I realized it was snowing. That would probably be the last time I had the chance to snow dye this season. So bit by bit I started prepairing for snow dyeing: mixing the SA and making dye stock. Put ready the trays. By the time I went outside to collect the snow it had melted away. I decided to dye anyway. This time I did parfaits without soaking them in SA. I stuffed the dry fabrics in the pots and poured dye stock and SA solution on top of them. These are the results. Even fronts and backs look different. I really love these results and I will do this more often.
Op een dag dat ik erg moe was sliep ik veel. Opeens kreeg ik in de gaten dat het sneeuwde. Dit zou waarschijnlijk m'n laatste kans op sneeuwverven zijn. Dus sutkje bij beetje begon ik met het klaarzetten van de spullen: sodabadje maken, verfstoffen oplossen. De bakken en potten klaarzetten. Toen ik dat eindelijk voor elkaar had ging ik naar buiten en .... je raadt t al, sneeuw is weggesmolten. Toch maar gaan verven. Deze keer heb ik droge stof in de potten gestopt, niet voorgeweekt in soda, en daar eerst verfoplossing en toen sodawater overheen gegoten. Dit zijn de resultaten en ik ben er blij mee. De voor en achterkanten zijn meestal niet gelijk. Grappig.

Flower Faery DYB rr

My Flower Faery blocks are home. This was a DYB rr so the blocks were 6".
Mijn bloemenkinderenblokken zijn thuis. Dit was een DYB rr dus de blokken meten 15 cm.

summer DYB blocks home

My blocks of the summer dyb rr are home. They are lovely.
Here are all six blocks together, including the one I'll embellish.
DYB stands for Do Your Block. Each block messures 6".
Mijn blokken van de zomer "doe een blok" estafette zijn thuis.
Ze zijn mooi. Hier zijn alle 6 de blokken samen, inclusief het blok dat ik zelf nog ga versieren.

This is the block embellished by Arlene. I had to get used to the button trail, but I've started to like it.
Dit is het blok dat is bewerkt door Arlene. Ik moest wennen aan de knopencluster maar nu vind ik 'm wel mooi.

applicatiekaart voor Olga en lentekaart van Kate

At the Dyehard group we're having a fabric PC swap with spring theme. This is the card I received from Kate. I love the techniques and materials she used and I will probably copy them some time in the future. Thank you Kate for the lovely card.
Met de Dyehard groep hebben we een textielkaartenruil met lente thema. Dit is de kaart die ik heb ontvangen van Kate. Heel interessante technieken en materialen en ik zal in de toekomst daar zeker wat van gebruiken. Dank je Kate voor de mooie kaart.

This is the appliqué card I made for Olga. I used green hand dyed cotton and decorated it with fusable web painted with gold metallic paint. Then I embroidered the stem of the tree and appliquéd balls of blossom, made from hand dyed cottons.
Dit is de applicatiekaart die ik heb gemaakt voor Olga. Ik heb groen geverfde katoen gebruikt voor de achtergrond en daar met goud metallic verf gekleurde vliesofix opgestreken. Vervolgens heb ik de bookstam geborduurd en ballen van bloesems geappliceerd van handgeverfd katoen. Telkens moet ik aan een kauwgomballenboom denken.

bead journal project February

I finally got started with my BJP for February. The background is a piece of snow dyed cotton. The bird is stenciled with a self cut stencil.
Ik ben eindelijk aan mijn journaaltje voor februari begonnen. De achtergrond is sneeuwgeverfde katoen. De vogel is gestencild met een zelfgesneden sjabloon.

I wanted to surround the bird with blossoms, but didn't know how to start. Then, one day, I saw this spring green wool and knew how to get the look I was looking for. I've loosely arranged the wool around the bird and I'm beading blossoms and leaves.
Ik wilde de vogel omringen met bloesems, maar wist niet hoe te beginnen. Tot ik op een dag deze lentegroene wol zag. Ik heb de wol losgetrokken en om de vogel gelegd. Ik gebruik het nu als basis om met kralen bloesems en blaadjes te maken.

A little more progress.
Weer een beetje verder.

stumpwork rr, Diane's blog in progress

I'm in a crazy quilt round robin of the cqint group and the theme is stumpwork. I love stumpwork. This is Diane's block and so far I added the lace motif at the top right, the lace and berries seam treatment at the left and I've embroidered a heart at the bottom part.
Ik doe mee met een crazy quilt estafette van de cqint groep en het thema is stumpwerk. Ik ben gek op stumpwerk. Dit is het blok van Diane. Tot nog toe heb ik rechtsboven het kantmotief opgenaaid. Links een kant en kralen zoomversiering gemaakt en links onder een hart geborduurd.


The lace is tea dyed and embellished with beads and tiny wax pearls.
The stem of the berries is a whipped chain stitch in floss. The berries are rosette beads (they look like pony beads) covered with small glass beads. I tried to embroider the leaves but had to rip them several times because they didn't look right next to the berries, so I decided to bead them too.
Het kantje is gekleurd met thee en versierd met kraaltjes en waspareltjes.
De steel van de bessen is een omslingerde kettingsteek. De bessen zijn gemaakt van rosette kralen omwikkeld met kleine glaskraaltjes. Ik wilde de blaadjes borduren, maar moest ze verscheidene keren uithalen want ze pasten niet bij de bessen. Uiteindelijk heb ik ze ook van kralen gemaakt.

Dit is mijn hart ontwerp. Gebruik het gerust, maar vermeld wel mijn naam als ontwerper van het hart en ik zou graag zien wat je ermee maakt.

Japan voor Jettie

This month it was Jettie's turn to receive quilties. She chose for the theme Japan and left the size free. You can see all results at our Tegendraads blog.
I picked the Wisteria for my quiltie. I looked through my book on crest symbols, using those with a Wisteria I started sketching, I've added 2 of my sketches below. I used one of the sketches as a pattern to cut a stencil. I stenciled with pearl white paint onto handdyed purplish blue cotton. After drying and heatsetting I put 1 layer of organza on each flower, stitched the outlines and then cut away the excess with the soldering iron and also added some details to let the white shine through. Put a bit of tule onto the background before freehand quilting, I wanted to create a Wisteria leaf motif.

Deze maand was het de beurt van Jettie om onze mini quiltjes te ontvangen. Kijk op het Tegendraads blog om alle gemaakte quiltjes te zien. Jettie had gekozen voor het thema Japan en had het formaat vrij gelaten. Ik ben eerst een door mijn boek met crest symbolen gaan bladeren en koos toen voor de blauwe regen. Aan de hand van crest symbolen met blauwe regen ben ik gaan schetsen, ik heb een paar van m'n schetsjes geplaatst. Ik heb van de schets met 3 bloemtrossen een sjabloon gesneden en met parelmoelwitte verf gesjabloneerd op paarsigblauwe handgeverfde stof. Na drogen en fixeren heb ik over de bloemtrossen 1 laagje organza gelegd en doorgestikt, waarna ik het teveel weer heb weggebrand met de soldeerbout. ook heb ik wat details gebrand zodat het wit tevoorschijn komt. Op de achtergrond heb ik lila tule gelegd en vervolgens het geheel gequilt in een motief dat het loof van de blauwe regen moet voorstellen.

For March we are swapping ATCs with the theme vintage/cream on cream at the tact group of stitchinfingers. Trillian has sent me this gorgeous ATC. Thank you Trillian, I love it.
In maart ruilen we ATCs met het thema vintage/creme op creme in de textiel atc groep van stitchinfingers. Trillian heeft me deze prachtige ATC gestuurd. Ik ben er erg blij mee.

Today was the meeting of Tegendraads. Angela was the lucky one to receive AAs from everyone. She had chosen for the theme "something fishy".
This is the AA I made for her. The fish are embroidered with variegated DMC floss and the fabric has been tie-dyed. At the back I wrote this riddle:
Alive without breath,
As cold as death;
Never thirsty, ever drinking,
All in mail, never clinking.
the answer to this of course, is fish.
I took the riddle from The Hobbit, by JRR Tolkien.

Vandaag kwam Tegendraads weer bijeen. Angela was de gelukkige die van iedereen een AA kreeg. Haar thema was "iets vissigs".
Dit is de AA die ik voor haar heb gemaakt. Geborduurd met gemeleerd garen en de stof is afgebonden en toen geverfd. Op de achterkant schreef ik het volgende raadsel:
Levend zonder adem,
koud als de dood;
nooit dorstig, altijd drinkend,
geheel in maliën, nooit rink'lend.
het antwoord is natuurlijk een vis.
het raadsel komt uit de Hobbit van JRR Tolkien.

Some stenciling I've done onto handdyed fabric. The stencil of the bird is cut from pre-treated Manila paper. The one with the peacock feather is one that I purchased from Stewart Gill.
Twee motieven die ik heb gesjabloneerd op handgeverfde stof. Het sjabloon van de vogel is gesneden uit voorbehandeld Manila papier
en de pauwenveer is een gekocht sjabloon van Stewart Gill.

This bird is also cut from Manila paper and stenciled onto snow dyed fabric. I want to use this as a base for my bead journal for February.
Dit vogeltje is ook gesneden uit Manila papier en gesjabloneerd op m'n met sneeuw geverfde stof. Ik wil dit als basis voor m'n kralenjournaal voor februari gebruiken.

The swap of fiber pages on the yahoo group Fibre Fever is coming to an end this month. It has been a wonderful swap. Fantastic pages have been made. All of the girls are very talented. This is the last page I had to make for the swap. This one is for Barbara. Her theme is the universe. I had no clue what to make, but once I envisioned these beaded swirls this page was stitched up in one evening and I regretted when it was done. I love beading!
De ruil van textielpagina's op de yahoo groep Fibre Fever komt tot een einde deze maand. Het is een geweldige ruil geweest. Prachtige pagina's zijn er gemaakt. Al de dames hebben veel talent. Dit is de laatste pagina die ik moest maken voor de ruil Deze is voor Barbara. Haar thema is het universum. Ik had geen idee wat ik moest maken totdat ik in gedachten deze krullen van kralen voor me zag. Ik heb de pagina in 1 avond van kralen voorzien en ik vond het jammer dat ie af was. Ik ben gek op kralen opnaaien!

I'm finally getting to the last items I finished. For the stitchinfingers tATC swap we'd chosen black/white/1 color as theme and I made the pinguin with the picot edging of blue beads. I also made 2 ATCs for the birthdayswap of another yahoo group. The ATC at the most left side is free for swapping. Let me know when you're interested.
Ik ben bijna aan het eind van wat ik wil laten zien, cs wat ik heb gemaakt. Voor de ATC ruil van de stitchinfingers groep hebben we voor het thema zwart-wit-1 kleur gekozen. Ik heb een pinguin gesjabloneerd en er een picotrandje van blauwe kraaltjes langs gemaakt. Verder 2 ATCs met pinguins voor de verjaardagsruil op een andere yahoo groep. De meest linkse ATC is nog vrij om te ruilen. Laat weten als je geïnteresseerd bent.
