Lauri's fantasy block

This is Lauri's fantasy block. When I received it, it had 2 beautifull dragons on it. Since fantasy is more that dragons I wanted to add something different. Problem was that I just didn't know whát. When I got my hands on the lace peacock I know this would be fit the theme and when painted in peacock colors it would complement the block colors. I used deka silk to paint the bird and stitched it down with monofill. I wanted the peacock to stand underneath a bow of wisteria and with its feet in a bush of hydrangea. I made the stem for the wisteria from 6 pieces of wire that I twisted 2 at a time. then I twisted the 3 twisted pieces around each other, making the stem. when it had the right height I made bows in the
branches and bend them in a bow over the peacock. I took the ends of the wire to the back of the fabric and tacked down the ends. I wrapped the wire with variegated floss and every inch or so attached it to the fabric. next were the flowerheards for the hydrangea. I drew circles onto hand dyed fabric and filled the circles with French knots in variegated thread. basted around the embroidery and cut out with a small seam allowence. appliqued the flowerheads in place. I made the stumpwork flowers of the hydrangea and the flowers and leaves of the wisteria according to a pattern in one of Di van Niekerk books.
I decided to fill the open space around the peacock according to instructions by Ann Cox. I finished the whole by adding silk ribbon detached chain stitched for leaves for the hydrangea.
Dit is Lauri's fantasy blok. Er stonden al twee draken op toen ik het blok ontving en aangezien fantasy meer is dan draken, wilde ik iets heel anders maken. Alleen had ik geen idee wát. Toen ik m'n pakketje met kant kreeg en er een kanten pauw in vond wist ik dat dat het zou worden. De kleuren van een pauw zouden goed bij het blok passen. Ik heb de pauw geverfd met deka silk en opgenaaid met monofil, een 'onzichtbaar' naaigaren. Een ramp om met de hand te gebruiken! Maar de pauw is onzichtbaar bevestigd en daar ging het om. Vervolgens heb ik cirkels getekend op handgeverfde stof en die cirkels heb ik opgevuld met knoopjessteken van gemeleerd garen. vervolgens heb ik om het borduurwerk heen geregen en de rondjes met een kleine naadtoeslag uitgeknipt. door het rijgdraadje aan te trekken vouwt het onder het borduurwerk en kun je ze appliceren.
De stam van de blauwe regen is gemaakt van metaaldraad. ik heb 6 stukjes geknipt en die twee aan twee in elkaar gedraaid. Die 3 setjes heb ik weer in elkaar gedraaid tot een stammetje en ter hoogte van de boog heb ik ze losjes in en uit elkaar laten gaan, zodat je afzonderlijke takken ziet. Toen heb ik de bloemen en bladeren van de blauwe regen geborduurd volgens aanwijzingen in een boek van Di van Niekerk. Het idee van de stumpwork hortensia is ook van haar. De ruimte tussen de boog en pauw heb ik opgevuld met stokrozen, geborduurd naar aanwijzingen van Ann Cox. Tussen de hortensia bloemen heb ik bladeren van zijde lint in ketting steek geborduurd. Verder heb ik het vogeltje helemaal rechts toegevoegd en het ronde kraaltje met motief tussen de pauw en de draak applicatie.

Album Amicorum

This is the 5th little quilt I've made for the Album Amicorum exchange at the Dutch fibermail group. This one is for Olga. I've painted the background fabric purple, but that hardly shows. I put a skeleton leaf on top and an striped transparent piece of fabric. Then stitched it with a pattern I found in Robbi Eklow's book. After that I appliqued a piece of painted and distorted Tyvek and 2 motifs made from fun foam that I strung on a string of beads. Second pic is of the backside of the quiltlet. Each aa comes with a saying or poem.
Dit is het 5de kleine quiltje dat ik heb gemaakt voor de Album Amicorum ruil van de fibermail groep. Deze is voor Olga. Ik heb de achtergrond paars geverfd, maar dat is nauwelijks nog te zien. Ik heb er een bladskelet opgelegd en gestreepte transparante stof. Vervolgens heb ik het doorgestikt volgens een patroon uit een boek van Robbi Eklow. Daarna heb ik er een stukje geverfde en vervormde Tyvek op geappliceerd en twee foam motiefjes aan een kralenkettinkje bevestigd en opgenaaid. Tweede foto is van de achterkant van het quiltje. Op ieder quiltje hoort een gedichtje of spreuk, zo ook op deze.

vlisco

Tonny and I have been to the exhibition of Vlisco's in the museum of etnology in Leiden. We've seen lots of great fabrics, very inspiring. The story behind them is interesting.
Vlisco's are batiks made in the Netherlands for the African market. Lots of the prints have cute names and special meanings. The prints are bold and colorfull. Here you can see more pics.
Tonny en ik zijn naar een tentoonstelling van Vlisco's geweest in Volkenkunde in Leiden. We hebben prachtige stoffen gezien, heel inspirerend. Het verhaal van de Vlisco's is interessant. Vlisco's zijn batiks die gemaakt worden in Nederland voor de Afrikaanse markt. Veel van de prints hebben grappige namen en een speciale betekenis. De patronen zijn opvallend en kleurrijk. Hier kun je meer foto's zien.

tag update

Some posts ago I showed you the nakid tags that I made for the tag swap on cqi. All three are embellished now and these are the results. For the 1rst I simply followed the print on the fabric. That felt like cheating. #2 is kept in purple/dusty pink colors. The tatted motif and the green print were from a swap and looked great on this tag. #3 is all green with hints of brown. I crocheted the basket and the S shape lazy daisies are done with yarn I dyed some time ago. The butterfly and green/gold trim were received in a swap. I used chenille embroidery thread for the pussy willows.

Een aantal berichten geleden liet ik de labelsvzien die ik had gemaakt voor een ruil op cqi. Alle drie zijn nu versierd en zie hier het resultaat. Voor de eerste heb ik simpelweg de print op de stof gevolgd. Dat voelt als de boel beduvelen. #2 is in paars/oudroze gehouden. Het frivolité motief en het groene bandje heb ik via een ruil gekregen en pasten prachtig bij dit label.
#3 is in groene kleuren met een beetje bruin. Ik heb het mandje gehaakt en het garen voor de kettingsteken van de S vorm heb ik enige tijd geleden zelf geverfd. Het vlindertje en het goud met groene bandje heb ik via een ruil gekregen. Voor de katjes heb ik chenille garen gebruikt.

knitting

These are two of the many stoles I've knitted and crocheted. Both are knitted from patterns I found at the internet. The beige one is a lace pattern of leaves. dd Jose is modeling here for you and Mandy took the pics.
Dit zijn twee van de vele stola's die ik heb gebreid en gehaakt. Beide zijn gebreid van patronen die ik op internet heb gevonden.
De beige stola is van een kant patroon van blaadjes. Mijn dochter Jose showt de stola terwijl Mandy de foto's neemt.

This stole is knitted from left overs of other projects. The leading color is the variegated yarn that has turquoise, green, purple and blue in it. I repeat this yarn every couple of pattern rows. It gives the stole unity. This stole is mine and now I'm knitting a next one for Marloes, using the same variegated yarn as main thread. Can you tell dd got sunburned?
Deze stola is gebreid van restjes garens. De voornaamste kleur is van een gemeleerd garen in de kleuren turkoois, groen, paars en blauw. Ik laat dit garen om de paar patronen terugkomen. Het geeft de stola eenheid. Deze stola is voor mij en nu ben ik een volgende aan het breien voor Marloes. Ik gebruik hetzelfde garen als hoofdkleur. Kun je zien dat Jose verbrand is?

a day of experiments

I needed to paint a piece of lace int he shape of a peacock for a cq project. I decided to play with an oval piece of lace as well. I continued with dyeing embroidery thread. I used perl, embroidery floss and embroidery cotton in pale colors like beige, yellow, white and pale green. I painted each skein using several colors. I used Deka Silk for the paint and heat set it in the oven.
Ik moest een stuk kant in de vorm van een pauw verven voor een cq blok. Ik heb gelijk ook het ovale kantje geverfd. Vervolgens heb ik borduurgarens geverfd. Ik heb perle garen, splijtgaren en borduurkatoen gebruikt in lichte kleuren zoals beige, geel, wit en lichtgroen. Ik heb iedere streng in verschillende kleuren geverfd met Deka Silk en na het drogen heb ik het in de oven gefixeerd.

Next I painted Tyvek with the Deka Silk. The nice thing about this paint is that it gets absorbed by the Tyvek and becomes one with it. When you treat the Tyvek with heat, the paint doesn't come off like other paints do, it just gets more concentrated. I ironed the Tyvek to get the shapes I was looking for.
Vervolgens heb ik Tyvek geverfd met Deka Silk. Het fijne van deze verf is dat 't in de Tyvek trekt en er één geheel mee vormt. Als je de Tyvek verhit bladdert de verf er niet af zoals andere verfsoorten wel doen, de kleur wordt wel wat meer geconcentreert. Ik heb de Tyvek gestreken om het effect te krijgen dat ik zocht.


Next experiment was with fun foam. I cut a piece of the foam and put it onto a piece of wood. Then I heated it with a heatgun. When the piece was hot I immediately pressed a rubberstamp into it and then I cut out the shapes. These are the results. The black foam was thicker and therefore gives a nicer relief. Now the pieces can be painted or colored with paintsticks.
Het volgende experiment was met foam. Ik heb een stukje foam afgeknipt en op een plankje gelegd. Vervolgens heb ik het verhit met een heatgun en meteen een stempel erin gedrukt. Daarna heb ik de vormen uitgeknipt. Dit zijn de resultaten. Nu kunnen ze nog beschilderd worden of met oliekrijt gekleurd.
More fun foam. I simply used a punch to create these shapes. Fun foam works great with punches and gives crisp outlines. Only problem is that the foam is sometimes too thick for the punch, but a hammer can fix that.
Nog meer foam. Ik heb hier eenvoudig een pons gebruikt om de vormen te maken. Foam doet het erg goed in een pons en geeft mooie, duidelijke randen. Soms is de foam te dik voor de pons, maar dat is met een hamer te verhelpen.

Ik heb nog twee textiel boekpagina's gemaakt. Ik had een pagina nodig met linten, zodat ik ze vast kon borduren en erop borduren. Dan nog een tweede pagina met zigzagband en kant, zodat ik de motieven kan maken zoals Sharon ze laat zien in haar blog. Ik heb veel plezier met deze uitdaging van 100 steken in 200 dagen. bouquets

I love flowers but rarely buy them. Now I was given 2 bouquets. This bouquet with chrysanthemums were from my parents. If I still would've been married this year would be our 25th anniversary. The marriage however broke up many years ago, thankfully.
Rianne was here to help me with housekeeping this last Monday and it was the last time, since I was not granted another period of help even tho' I need it badly. Rianne gave me the beautifull bouquet of peonies.

Ik gun mezelf zelden bloemen ook al ben ik er gek op. En nu kreeg ik binnen korte tijd 2 boeketten. Zijn ze niet prachtig? Het boeket met de chrysanten heb ik van m'n ouders gekregen. Als ik niet allang geleden was gescheiden zou ik dit jaar 25 jr getrouwd zijn geweest. Ik heb dit boeket gekregen omdat ik al zoveel jaar m'n boeketje ben misgelopen. Lief he?
Het boeket pioenrozen heb ik van Rianne gekregen. Zij heeft mij een poosje geholpen met het schoonhouden van m'n flatje. Afgelopen maandag was zij hier voor de laatste keer omdat mij meer hulp is geweigerd. We zijn nu in beroep en ik hoop dat Rianne weer terugkomt.

another stole

I have finally finished my beige stole. Its knitted in a leaf pattern. It is a really nice pattern to knit, I found it online through this link see Lehmus Lace Shawl. I used thicker yarn and 4 mm needles. On to the next stole, it'll be this one in blue and turquoise colors.
Ik heb nu dan eindelijk m'n beige stola af. Het is gebreid in een bladpatroon, een fijn patroon om te breien. Ik heb deze online gevonden via deze link zie Lehmus Lace Shawl. Ik heb dikker garen en een 4 mm rondbreinaald gebruikt.
Op naar de volgende stola. Dat wordt deze in blauwe en turkoois kleuren.

flowers

My balcony is rather small, only one yard square. I try to get as many flowerpots onto it as possible. There still is room for my chair, to sit and rejoice my tiny garden.
At the streetside of the balcony there is a sort of arch. I want it to get overgrown with climbing plants. The past years that hasn't been a success, but now I planted a passion flower next to one side and its growing fast and I keep tieing it to the arch. At the top of the arch I have a windrose and windchimes, a bamboo and a metal one. I love their sound.

At the left of the arch I have an Alstroemenia. It won't grow along the arch. I'm not sure which climber I will put at that side. This is the first time I'm growing these flowers and they are doing fine so far.
At the other side, against the wall, I planted my favorite, the white honeysuckle. During flowering it will turn soft yellow. In the same pot I planted an ivy and sweet peas. The sweet peas and the honeysuckle are growing like mad. Both have flower buds, but aren't blooming yet. Above these climbers I have pelargoniums and a carnation hanging against the wall. In between the pots with passionflower and honeysuckle I grow sage, yellow tomatoes and a scented pelargonium.

Op mijn kleine balkonnetje heb ik heel veel plantenbakken staan. Er past nog precies een stoel tussen, zodat ik van al dat moois kan genieten. Het balkonnetje meet 1 vierkante meter. Aan de straatkant heb ik een houten boog. Daar klimt nu een passiebloem omhoog. Die groeit erg hard en zit vol knoppen. Aan de andere kant van de boog staat een Alstroemenia. Klimmen zal die niet, maar ze staat wel mooi te bloeien. Tussen deze twee in hangt een bak met violen aan het hek en bovenaan de boog hang ik een windroos en twee windgongen, 1 van bamboe en 1 van metaal. Heerlijk geluid vind ik dat. Aan de huiskant heb ik een bak beplant met kamperfoelie, de witte die tijdens de bloeit naar
geel verkleurt. In dezelfde bak staan een klimop en Lathyrus. Ze staan in knop maar bloeien nog niet. Boven deze bak, aan de muur heb ik hang- en staande geraniums en een pot met duizendschonen. Tussen de bakken voor- en achteraan heb ik een gele tomaat, salie en citroengeranium staan. M'n planten groeien en bloeien prachtig en het is enigszins compensatie voor de tuin die ik niet heb.

I'm participating in a swap organised in the yahoo group cqinternational. We'll be making tags as described by Gail in her article in the latest CQMagonline . Its my plan to make and swap 3 tags. I've been putting them together today. All three are very different. At the first one I want to follow the print of the fabric and embroider the flowers with floss and silk ribbon and add beads. I haven't done it this way before and I'm quite curious how it will turn out.

The second tag is all in pink/purple; totally different from the
first nakid tag. Here I've added dark red lace and this adorable piece of braid that I received through a tea baggy swap. Tag 3 is all in green/gold colors, fabrics are built around a diamond shaped swatch with a bird print.

Ik heb me ingeschreven voor de ruil van labels van de yahoo groep cqinternational. We gaan labels maken zoals beschreven door Gail in het laatste exemplaar van CQMagonline . Ik ben van plan er 3 te maken voor de ruil. Ieder label is verschillend. Voor de eerste heb ik een printstofje gebruikt. Ik ben van plan de afbeelding te borduren met borduurgaren en zijdeling met toevoeging van kraaltjes. Ik heb dat nog niet eerder zo gedaan, dus ik ben benieuwd.

De tweede label is totaal verschillend en opgebouwd uit roze/paarse stoffen. Ik heb een donkerrood kantje toegevoegd plus een bandje dat ik via een thee ruil heb ontvangen. Label 3 is in allemaal groene tinten met gouden accenten uitgevoerd. Het is opgebouwd rond een ruitvormig lapje met een print van een vogeltje.

Í'm a member of 2 interesting groups at the ning group Stitchin' Fingers One group is about making fabric books. The other is starting over again with Sharon's challenge of 100 stitches in 100 days, tho' we'll be doing them in 200 days. I have made these two fabric pages for my stitch samples. When I'm done with the challenge I will put the pages together into a book, thus combining two groups/techniques: doing the stitches and making a fabric book.
Ik ben lid van 2 interessante groepen van de ning groep Stitchin'Fingers Een groep gaat over textiel boeken maken. De ander gaat opnieuw beginnen met Sharon's uitdaging van 100 steken in 100 dagen, al gaan wij er 200 dagen over doen. Ik heb deze twee textiel pagina's gemaakt voor m'n steken voorbeelden. Wanneer ik klaar ben met de uitdaging ga ik deze pagina's in een boekje maken, zodat ik op deze manier 2 technieken combineer: de steken uitvoeren en een textiel boek maken.

Lola

Sweet little Lola has had an accident a few days ago and passed away. Jose and I both are devastated by this sudden event. Lola, we miss you.
Onze lieve Lola heeft een ongelukje gehad een paar dagen geleden en heeft het niet overleefd. Jose en ik zijn er kapot van. Lola, we missen je.
