beetle/kever

to find more items to add to Cathy's willow block I thought I should look at bugs that have a relation with the willow. I found that the musk beetle larvae live in the wood of the willow. I found the above picture at this site. I made some sketches to explore the shape of the beetle.

here's the result of my labor. I outlined the body and wing shields of the beetle with silk thread, filled in the wing shields with couched Madeira metallic thread and embroidered the body with silk floss in 2 colors and the legs and feelers are done with DMC floss. finished it off with beads for the eyes. don't forget to check out the close-up at the bottom.

If a real beetle were to crawl up next to yours I think he'd be in love. What a great job you did creating it!

Cobi,
Very nice work on the beetle. He is very interesting up close. I am going to have to pay more attention to bugs.
