stained glass experiments in fabric

I had this idea to stitch a motif in black yarn and then paint the fabric to a stained glass effect. I chose the Arts and Crafts motif below, but wondered if it would work so after stitching the bigger motif I drew a small motif and stitched it. That's the bird above.

The bird has been painted and I think it looks nice. I'm now halfway painting the Arts and Crafts motif and I'm very pleased with how it looks so far. dd came home and tried to claim it right away, but I'm making this one for someone, so no, she can't have it. If I do this again I want to do the painting first and the stitching afterwards. Now I get bits of paint on the black stitching and that gives it a less neat look. I'm still in doubt what colors to choose for the flowers. And the background. Decisions, decisions ...... Stay tuned. The little bird will be turned into an ATC. If you want to swap, leave a comment.

This is fascinating. I love how it looks.

What kind of paint did you use? I was wondering if watercolors would look good? Since they are thinner would that prevent the color from getting o the back?

Your doing a gorgeous job on these. Thank you for sharing your idea it is such a treasure:)
